🏀🏀The Gold Standard🏀🏀
You remember when Drake dropped Back to Back and you were like “ohhh man this is incredible stuff, you think he will send bottles to Charla----ommmgg he DID send bottles to Charlamagne!” ? That feeling you had knowing you just witnessed/heard something that set the bar just a little higher for everybody else out there doing the same exact thing? To me, that’s the music version of a Ray Allen jump shot. A jump shot I admittedly didn’t take in until I saw him play in Milwaukee. Yeah, everybody else was out there shooting, but Ray was taking it to a completely different level. The picture perfect form (tell me what he could have done better form police) and the elevation that came along with it was just…entrancing (is that too strong of a word?). It was then and there that he became the “Gold Standard” of shooters to me. I wanted to know what he did, how he practiced, where he was from, how he made it out of Coney Island and more importantly how he made it to the NBA despite going to Big State (What kind of name is Jesus anyway? “IT’S A BIBLICAL NAME SON”). However, to sum up my findings – Ray himself said it best. “What makes them champions (shooters as well) is the boring old habits that nobody sees.” I saw a guy who had a jump shot I wanted to emulate back in 2001. I knew it was different and I knew it was going to set the bar a little bit higher for everybody else. What I didn’t know at the time was how much work went into making that shot what it was before I ever got to see it in action. Keep Shooting.
